Dikaia-Loukia (Tomazou) Agapis, DVM, MS, PGCert
Head Veterinarian, Practice Owner
Dr. Agapis is a Greek-American veterinarian with clinical experience both in Greece and the U.S.. She studied veterinary medicine at the University of Thessaly, Greece. As a student she volunteered at various animal shelters, and later on in private practice, she continued her efforts to help homeless animals.
Dr. Agapis completed the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program and earned a Master’s in Veterinary Medical Sciences with a focus in Shelter Medicine and a Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Public Health through the University of Florida. She has also trained with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in veterinary acupuncture, through Universal Imaging in Veterinary Small Animal Ultrasonography, and in Canine Rehabilitation (Physical Therapy) at the Chi University. Dr. Agapis is certified in Fear Free Handling of Small Animals and Avian Species and as a FEMA first responder in Disaster Response.
Prior to returning to Greece, Dr. Agapis served as faculty at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. During her time there, she held various positions including Clinical Instructor of Junior Surgery, Coordinator of International Programs, and Service Head for the Shelter Medicine Program. After leaving Illinois, Dr. Agapis joined the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine as an online instructor in order to open AgapiVet here in Rhodes. She hopes to use her insight abroad to help the stray population on the island while providing the best possible care to families.
When Dr. Agapis is not at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and her three fur babies. She continues to serve as adjunct faculty for the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine Online Training Program and is actively involved with Paideia Study Abroad Programs in which she is not only faculty, but also serves as the program's Safety Officer and Director of Community Outreach.
